Volunteer with Make-A-Wish

Volunteer Opportunities

Fulfilling wishes for children of Alaska, Montana, Northern Idaho and Washington is possible because of the efforts of our dedicated volunteers. Whether providing administrative support, wishgranting or helping out at a special event, our volunteers do whatever it takes to make wishes come true! Although it requires a big commitment, Make-A-Wish volunteers say theres nothing more rewarding than helping make a childs most cherished dream become reality. For information about volunteer opportunities, please contact:

Crista Taylor, Administrative Coordinator at
or 206-623-5350.

To follow are the three types of volunteer opportunities available. You may chose to volunteer in one or more areas, based upon your time available and interests.

Wishgranting Volunteers:

Wishgranters work in teams of two and work directly with children to ascertain and plan wishes, and work creatively to seek in-kind goods and services to implement the wish. The nature of each child's wish determines the level of the wishgranter's involvement. Wishgranters must be at least 21 years old.

Administrative Volunteers:

Administrative volunteers play a vital role in the daily operations of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. All administrative volunteers work during regular MAW business hours (Monday- Friday, 9am - 5pm). Responsibilities vary widely and may include: computer work, mailings, and office projects. Generally, these volunteers work a specific shift weekly.

Special Event Volunteers:

Our special event and fund raising volunteers help with specific events or promotions, including Radiothons, 5K Runs, Golf Tournaments, and Holiday Gift Wrapping.

Becoming a Volunteer

Step One: Be at least 21 years of age. (If not, ask about our Student Wish Maker Program.)
Step Two: E-mail or call the Make-A-Wish Volunteer Coordinator, Heather Robinson at heather [at] makeawishwa.org.
Step Three: Attend a Volunteer Orientation or Mini-Training Session (depending on where you live)
Step Four: Complete a Volunteer Application (including a background check, personal references, etc.)
Step Five: Have a personal interview with a Make-A-Wish staff member. Wishgranter volunteers need to also complete step six.
Step Six: Attend an all day (Saturday) wishgranter training session, if you have not attended a Mini-Training Session

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Make-A-Wish. Without their passion, creativity, and dedication, we simply could not grant the wishes that bring so much hope to children and families. Every volunteer, whether they spend a few hours or many years with us, makes a lasting difference.

If you are looking for a way to give back and be part of something truly meaningful, we invite you to join our volunteer family. No matter your skills or availability, there is a place for you here. From helping in the office to planning events to meeting wish kids and their families, your time and energy will touch lives in ways you cannot imagine.

We look forward to welcoming you to our team. Together, we can create magic for children who need it most.
